JOB SUMMARY: The Application Designer/Developer is a member of the Labtopia Informatix, Inc. team which will report directly to the President and CEO. The Application Designer/Developer must be self-directed, highly ethical, energetic, and be able to become familiar with the company's processes and implement improvements where applicable. As a member of the Labtopia team, this position will be involved in developing server-based and web-based applications related to enterprise level Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications. This position will collaborate with internal development teams, clients and vendor partners to optimize client results and Labtopia’s value to laboratories



  • Design and develop web-based applications for integration with common Laboratory Information Management Systems.  This may include development of code for interfaces, configuration, customizations and reports in LIMS, web services, and other SQL/Oracle based applications.
  • Actively participate in the business design activities related to the development application software, data and packaged solutions.  This development will rely on C# and ASP.NET experience.
  • Perform code review and software unit testing.
  • Develop and execute test scripts for software QA testing.
  • Analyze business requirements and perform configuration and integration with interfacing systems and translate into efficient technical solutions.
  • Collaborate as part of a project team to ensure that technical design meets the business requirements.
  • Aid with documentation, user manuals, and other tools to support LIMS for both technical & non-technical end users.
  • Ensure that projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the agreed quality standard;


  • Write procedures, work instructions, forms and the necessary tasks for Labtopia Informatix.
  • Must be able to demonstrate developed software applications either as support or lead.
  • Must communicate timely to the customer/project manager on all project milestones and supporting activities.


  • Bachelors or Master degree in Computer Science
  • Strong in developing applications and web services using Microsoft .NET technologies, C#.NET 2013/2012/2010, ASP.NET MVC 5.0
  • Proficient in software development tools such as Visual Studio, Team Foundation Server, Azure Dev Ops, Microsoft Visio, Zendesk, SQL Server Management Studio
  • Experience with SQL (MS SQL Server 2012/2008) and Oracle Databases including database design and development.
  • Experienced in closely working with stakeholders/clients in requirements gathering, offering ideas, solving business problems, analysis, functional testing, status checkpoint meeting discussions and release management related activities.
  • Experience in developing optimized web applications that runs on desktop/mobile devices.
  • Experienced in full Software Development Life Cycle from gathering requirements, software design and architecting to deploying and supporting or enhancing finished products
  • Experience with Object Orientated coding desirable.
  • Experience in SampleManager (VGL programming language), STARLIMS, Labware or other LIMS desirable


  • Must be able to manage projects and stakeholders for all development projects.
  • Must be able to understand business requirements and translate them into IT solutions.
  • Must have experience working in a software development team environment.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate with both coworkers and clients.
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic and culturally diverse environment across multiple time zones.
  • Leadership qualities: Integrity, attention to detail, timeline sensitivity, goal-oriented, motivator, technical/analytical background.
  • Effective time management through balancing multiple project responsibilities, ad-hoc customer requests and project-related activities and support.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within laboratories.
